Benji Leal:
Vocals

Benji Leal graduated from Houston Baptist University in February 2005 with a BA in Elementary Education. He does not believe though, that he needs all those other so-called "prestigious" degrees as Paul does. He is the Music Minister at Second Baptist Church of Lake Jackson. He resides in West Houston with his wife Kimberly and their hairy "children," housecats Cybill and Cobalt. Benji is living in denial and of the opinion that his late dog, Flag, is still among the living. Don't tell him the truth, please.

Testimony:

Growing up in a musical and Christian household, I was always an "old school" musician. Singing myself hoarse to "Jesus Music" LPs supplied by my DJ father, and surrounded by the sounds of my mom's piano, guitar, and to my occasional chagrin, accordion, I was a pretty happy kid. "Born again" at age 5, I knew there was definitely something to this "God" thing, though at the time, only thought of it as a fire escape. In 1998, as a high school freshman, I realized that there had to be more to the Christian life than just skipping Hell. I reaffirmed my commitment to Jesus, and began a new and demanding journey of faith. Needless to say, the "interesting" years of my life were just beginning!

Not too long after that, my "perfect life" was rocked by the sudden death of my mother, the discovery of a "long-lost" sibling, and other . . . assorted trials. I was an emotional wreck, and not very fun to be around. In an attempt to redefine myself, as well as my life, I joined the Continental Singers, and toured around America and Canada for two years. Where I had been a quiet and reserved person before, I was now upon returning home a fun-loving and slightly annoying extrovert! One though, who had definitely learned his lesson. God did not want me to run away from my problems, and I assuredly couldn't run away from Him! I now understood that God was helping me grow up, and that no matter what life threw at me, Jesus would be right by my side every step of the way!

Soon after, He brought another wonderful woman into my life, who disproved the myth that I was doomed to be an "eternally hopeless" bachelor, by marrying me in 1999! Kimberly and I have worked with several music ministries, and in 2005, Paul invited me to sing the wordy parts of Certain Victory's songs! My aim as the band's vocalist is to thank Jesus for making life beautiful again, and to tell others that there's hope and love waiting for them, if they'll only accept it. Hey . . . Jesus was pulling for me . . . He'll pull for you.

I'm out.
-Benji
