God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly; My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You, In a dry and weary land where there is no water.

Psalms 63:1

When you called my name, Father,
I was cracked beyond repair,
But that little miracle
Took me up, made my aware
But even more I need you now
Though my soul was washèd clean,
With every strength that I gain
A hundred more I wish to glean

People say what they will
Too dependant, they agree
But there's a secret they don't know
The more I'm You, the more I'm me
So chain me so I may be free
Break me down so I may live
It's a small price to pay
For what you freely give

And I, I want you, cannot lie
I need you in my life

Life is made for many things,
And I surrender to partake,
The more I give the more I see
All of me I ask You take
Some may think me mad,
But this is truth upon its head
The moment I gave up my life
Was when I ceased to be dead

And I, I want you, cannot lie
I need you in my life

And I, I want you, cannot lie
no matter what I try
I want you to reply
The time is coming nigh

Heavenly Father, fulfill my desire for You. Make me completely Yours so that I may taste Your goodness. I pray for Your prison, so that I may be free. Amen.

It is our nature to desire God, and there is no way to describe that desire too strongly. Consider this sonnet by John Donne:

Batter my heart, three-person'd God, for you
As yet but knock, breathe, shine, and seek to mend;
That I may rise and stand, o'erthrow me, and bend
Your force to break, blow, burn, and make me new.
I, like an usurp'd town to another due,
Labor to admit you, but oh, to no end;
Reason, your viceroy in me, me should defend,
But is captiv'd, and proves weak or untrue.
Yet dearly I love you, and would be lov'd fain,
But am betroth'd unto your enemy;
Divorce me, untie or break that knot again,
Take me to you, imprison me, for I,
Except you enthrall me, never shall be free,
Nor ever chaste, except you ravish me.

The language here makes a lot of people nervous. I don't think it's strong enough. Words cannot describe the desire for God a person can possess. It is full of paradoxes and violence. The world will never understand why Christians would "enslave" themselves to a demanding God. It is because that is the only way we can be free. Why to we try to emulate Christ? Because that is the only way we can become fully ourselves.
