SOME SONGS BY
CERTAIN VICTORY:

"See Forevermore"

by Paul Lytle

"But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear. For truly I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it."

Matthew 13:16-17

Even if I found my own way,
I wouldn't recognize my place.
Even if I stumbled at your feet,
I couldn't see your face.

Even if I dreamed it all alone,
I wouldn't recall in the morning.
Even if the signs all pointed there,
I wouldn't heed the warning.

Tear at me, O Christ,
With all your might,
Make me whole for what's in store,
Take my eyes,
So I might see forevermore

Even if I obeyed all the laws
They wouldn't get me quite there,
Even studying every word,
Wouldn't make me aware

Tear at me, O Christ,
With all your might,
Make me whole for what's in store,
Take my eyes,
So I might see forevermore

But I find you, and you help me
To what is true and to see

Tear at me and rip it all away,
And then I may stand upright
And I am lost dreaming all my days away
But lost in comfort and light

So this I pray and pray it everyday:
Melt away this foreign guise,
So filled up into something new
And I can see with new eyes

Tear at me, O Christ,
With all your might,
Make me whole for what's in store,
Take my eyes,
So I might see forevermore

Break me down,
Turn around,
Build me up and I will roar,
"Love abounds,
And I can see forevermore."

Heavenly Father, rip out those part of me unworthy of Your presence. Form in me a new person, one more like You. No matter how it hurts, I pray that You forge in me a Godly person. Amen.

Prayer does the strangest things. There was one week where I was incredibly upset. Things at work were not going well at all, I was constantly at odds with my supervisors, and I couldn't imagine staying there a minute longer. Trouble was, I had other responsibilities, and we needed the income. But try as I may, I could think of no other solution but to quit.

Then I prayed. No matter how many times it is proven to me that prayer should be my first recourse, I always go to it last. But I prayed that day at work, and all of a sudden the solution came to me. After about ten minutes, everything was set right, and I went back to work. It was an obvious answer, but I was blind until I prayed for sight.

I love this song, no less so because I am able to pray the lyrics directly. When I sing this song, it is a prayer that I be completely taken over. In those rare moments when I can let go enough to be totally ripped apart by God, such wonderful things happen. Everything becomes clear. I feel completely destroyed in those times, but then made whole in a way I could not conceive before.

We are constantly seeing and hearing the truth, but will not recognize it. We are like those annoying people who refuse to believe something bad about their favorite movie star or singer. Every day we miss a hundred miracles and signs, simply because we are absorbed in ourselves. Only through Christ can that veil be lifted. Only by being torn asunder can we stand whole.
