and He said to them, "Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem."
Luke 24:46-47
"Arise, go to Nineveh the great city and cry against it, for their wickedness has come up before Me."
Jonah 1:2
I kept praying for a life of meaning
Didn't know what that would entail
I had a notion of where God was leaning
At the bus station I found my vision failed
Take me all the way to Somerset
I have some need to go
What is waiting there I don't know
I must make my way to Somerset
Though I can't explain it yet
Maybe this is one thing I'll regret
I kept praying for a new direction
Now I'm living off nothing but His might
Some pray silent, some with genuflection
But some are answered; I'm beginning to feel alright
So pave the way to Somerset
I'll crawl if I must
This is just one time I must trust
Don't you believe in Somerset
Where the will of God is found?
My path is laid with gold on the ground

Heavenly Father, I pray for guidance and meaning. Lead me to where You need me, and give the courage to follow. Amen.
This song is an analogy to my own experience with this band. In the song, the narrator is going to Somerset (which Somerset, I have no idea, but it doesn't really matter) as a missionary, though he doesn't know why or what he will find. When I was called to play Christian music, I had the same sort of doubts. I spent a long time resisting the call. That's why I quote that passage from Jonah. I think I was acting a lot more like Jonah than I would like to admit.
Luckily, I didn't need to be swallowed by a fish to get the point. I finally went to the metaphorical bus station, and began working on this mission. I am not going to Somerset, but I am going somewhere unknown, without anything to lead me but Christ. It will be more than enough.
When I am called to do something, and I do it, the results always astound me. No matter how many times God proves his providence to me, I am awed by what He is able to do. Perhaps that is what finally convinced me to pick up the guitar again and start playing for Him. I am amazed at what I have already seen in Certain Victory, and I am anxious to see more.
