SOME SONGS BY
CERTAIN VICTORY:

"Stand"

by Paul Lytle

Then the LORD said, "Behold, there is a place by Me, and you shall stand there on the rock."

Exodus 33:21

Beware that man from up the street
Turn away; do not stare
Beware that little boy from school
The one with lice in his hair
Tell me Father where am I to go?
The world is filled with dust and worms and
I can't control the fits of fear
And I don't understand the terms

He said, "Stand.
Stand."

Beware the plane beware the boat
Beware that street with the foreign name
Don't step out of the box
Don't step out of the frame
Tell me Father, what can I do?
The world is filled with bombs and pain and
I can't step up, I got a wife and kids
I won't ever be the same

He said, "Stand.
Stand."

I got used to turning away
Whenever He would seek me
He always has too much to say
And it's tough to come meekly
I'm not the right one, okay?
Everything comes so weakly
I got used to turning away

He said, "Stand.
Stand.
Stand."
He said, "Stand.
Stand.
Stand."

Heavenly Father, I have proven beyond doubt that I am incapable of standing on my own. Lift me up, O Father, and move me as You will. Let no fear or trembling stand in my way. Amen.

I must admit that I was completely content to let Christ linger in my heart, but to shut Him in there where no one could see him. I had every excuse in the world, and they all made perfectly good sense to me. But then contentment began to wear off, because the longer Christ was in my heart, the more He made it His own, and I could not fight against Him forever.

Those who read this will assume all sorts of things about what I was doing as a closet Christian. Sex? Drugs? Rock 'n' Roll? Not at all (except for that last one, of course). No, I was living a rather moral life. What I was doing was not the problem. It was what I was not doing.

The parable of the man who built his house on the sand is directed at those who do not accept the teachings of Christ, but can we not apply it to we chosen as well? We have already been saved from the flood, but that does not necessarily mean that we are on firm ground. The stony ground is beside the Lord, where is our place. At no other place are we able to stand.
